My grandfather purchased new from Selfridge Airbase as surplus. Never plated, it was used to move boats at Clinton River Marina in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. It was brought up north to, Kalkaska Michigan to be used on a tree farm to the present-day. The engine had one valve job performed on it 40 years ago, a 12 V alternator fabricated, the master brake cylinder and wheel cylinders replaced. The CJ-2A is still in service moving trailers and towing trees.

In 1969 this Willys CJ-2A fell through the ice in Lake St. Clair, a large path was chain-sawed to the shoreline. Pulled to shore with long ropes, where the engine was pickled and started up. The fluids were changed and it was put back in the service the following spring.

  1. Thank you,! I have a 42 Ford I’m slowly trying to give it tlc it’s been a challenge but I’m looking forward to it…. it’s been in the family since mid 60’s. Lots of memories and it’s given me some great service. I’m going to try and rewire it this summer. The f head that’s on it ran so nice about a year ago up until I found out the gas tank had clogged up not getting gas to carb… I found out the problem when I disconnected the gas line from the tank to drag n out old gas and it would not drain so now I think no I have that problem fixed.
