My name is Luis Fernando Benavides Lizcano. I was born in Colombia but I have been living in Costa Rica since the year 2000. Ever since I was a little boy, I have been passionate about Willys. I inherited this passion from my father Luis Carlos Benavides Rodríguez, which is a Colombian retired Army Maj. He used to tell me his anecdotes and stories from the Army, on board in his Willys, without even imagining he was sowing the seeds of the Willys’ passion in me.

In 2016, already living here in Costa Rica, several friends and myself founded the group called “Willys Pasión Costa Rica” and ever since, we have been trying to put the Jeep Willys from 1941 to 1971 together in different national events. This is a 1953 Station Wagon Willys. It has its original F-Head Hurricane engine, T90 transmission and Dana 18 transfer case. I have had this car for the last 2 years now. It really had a detailed and thorough restoration, always trying to keep the authenticity and uniqueness as possible. I hope you enjoy the following photographs as much as I enjoy my Willys Station Wagon in Atenas, my current city, here in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Luis,
Thank you for sharing the pictures and pasion’ for Willys.
As I looked over your pictures, I realized that you have a modified delivery wagon. This is indicated by the double doors on the back, the rear fender wells that were always the same as the 1940’s wagons, regardless of what year the delivery wagon was made, and the fact that the side windows are nearly flush with the outside, rather than being recessed to the inside as the station wagons were. I have a similar model from 1964. Someday I will have mine as beautiful as your’s and share the pictures with Kaiser Willys.
Thank you again for sharing. She is a unique beauty.

Very Nice Vehicle. The interior work is beautiful, especially the wood work.
The sedan-delivery versions are much, much more uncommon that the station wagon version. The best lists for 1953 show over 10,000 Model 4×475 Station Wagons; serial number prefix 453 FA2, and only about 1,000 Sedan Deliveries; Model 4×475 Sedan Deliveries, serial number prefix 453 RA2.

I have a M 38 A1 that I have kept original. I always hate to see an older Willys with an incorrect engine installed. Your wagon is beautiful. thanks for posting.

Beautiful wagon! You have done an excellent job on the restoration. I had, for a time, a 1957 2wd wagon, but I let it get away from me, and I wish I hadn’t. I now have a 1952 M38A1, and I can’t keep it running. My recent heart surgery has left me without energy, but I’ll get the old girl going again some day, and send in a photo.

Hang in there Jim. I’m in the same boat. Actually died of a heart attack on 3 March but the docs brought me back and did some surgery. I had planned to do a nuts and bolts on a CJ3A and will not be put off by a faulty pump. As soo as I get back home to SA (I’m stuck in the States) work will commence according to plan. Never say die. Hang in there.

Luis, your Willys is absolutely beautiful, well done on an excellent job. I own a 1946 CJ2A which I found underneath a collapsed roof of a large storeroom and dug it out. I restored my Jeep and have had many fun moles out if her on the farm here in South Africa, and I accidentally caught the spare wheel on one of my railway carriages at my steam train depot and ripped the wheel away from the body,….I’m still smacking myself….. now to get someone to repair it is not easy…. however, great Jeep and once again, well done.

Very Beautiful! If only I had more years to obtain one to enjoy. My holdings along the way were a 1941 Bantam Jeep, now in the Heinz Museum in Pittsburg, Pa..
