Maverick Sprowles - 1951 Willys Truck

Maverick Sprowles - 1951 Willys Truck

We bought a 1980 Jeep CJ for our sons high school graduation and worked on it. His Jeep was shown on all kinds of Jeep groups, websites and magazines. He loved the Jeep but always had a Willys on his mind??? 17 year old… right. Well he secretly looked around and finally found one and long story short in two days he traded his Jeep straight up for it. We have done what we could with no budget but the love he has for it is crazy. He’s been offered 25K for it by odd participants but he says NO WAY. So he went into the Marines and graduated from Marine boot camp in Parris Island, SC in August and MCT at Camp Geiger 2 weeks ago. He’s a great young Marine with old salt vision!

  1. Next Willys will have to be a WWII-era Willys MB decked out in Marine colors/regiment insignias!

Great story and great decision to join USMC!

  17. Now we are talking! Young folks interested in history. I love that Private First Class (PFC) Sprowels traded “up” hahah for a classic Willys. I also very much appreciate every young person who steps “up” to serve us all by serving our nation. For you Mr and Mrs Sprowles, thank you for trusting our Marine Corps with your son. Trusting the Corps to train, care for, and make one of our own. Your PFC is and always will be a Marine for having earned the “Eagle Globe and Anchor”. The insignia which represents all Marines from the first to step up in 1775, until to today and beyond. Send us some more photos and facts about the truck. Thanks for sharing your story, I would enjoy sending and sharing some of my Jeep stories with your Marine. He may be motivated by what I am doing and perhaps, I may have a chance to meet him one day. Please visit Gartforvets.org or check out the Jeep that with Kaiser Willys support will cross the USA here: https://youtu.be/wm9sXAOMrlo.
