The flame for an old Army Jeep was ignited when I asked a guy to hold a 1943 GPW for me to buy after my 3rd deployment. Two months in, he sold it. Disappointment aside and about 6 years later I found a 1952 Willys M38 online right before going to Annual Training for the U.S. Army Reserve. After the two weeks, I reached out to the guy and I offered less than he was asking. To my surprise he accepted. I then sold my 2015 Dodge Challenger to buy it. It runs and I have fixed some minor leaks with my brother-in-law. I will do a full rebuild in the future. After some investigation and deduction, I have learned my M38 saw service in the Greek Military. It came with everything I wanted on an Army Jeep; canvas top, spare tire, fuel can, pioneer tools, black out light, and as a bonus a vintage radio and antenna! My son really enjoys taking the Army Jeep to day care, and I love taking him in it!

  1. To Adam (via Rachel?),
Adam, your story about your M38 is heart warming. When my Dad passed a few years back, I inherited his ’51 M38 that he bought circa 1963. I have been repairing it. I have pictures of me riding in it as a kid with him and with the family on family outings – fond memories. Best wishes on your project. Vic
