I purchased my ’51 Willys Wagon from my neighbor who had parked it in his garage and had not driven or started it for 13 years. My neighbor previously owned a surf shop, and the Wagon sat outside his shop with surfboards to draw attention. I bought it two years ago and within a month after careful preparation, I started it and within six months I was driving it on a regular weekly schedule. It is a resto-mod with a Chevy crate engine 350 with a 350 trans, Ford 9-inch rear end, Mustang II front end, but has the true look of a Willys Wagon including teak wood panels. It is very dependable and cruises on the interstate at 70mph with ease. The Marine Corps tire cover is to honor my son who is a Captain in the USMC and also has the first Willys we restored, a 1946 CJ-2A. To top it off it is my wife’s favorite car to take for a Sunday cruise.

  1. I greatly enjoyed the article about the ’51 wagon. I have a 60 wagon (Maverick Edition) that I want to “restore-mod”. I have cdecided that I want to put a V6 GMC Astro engine in it with a slush box. Disc brakes. Etc.

Would anyone know of a shop in SWFL that I could go to for the work?

    Thanks!!
