I bought my 1951 Willys CJ-3A in July of 2021, I spent the winter rebuilding the motor, axles, brakes, suspension, electrical, steering and adding rock sliders; additional body armor and some safety equipment was added as well. I have been intrigued and causally looking for one for a few years and finally found what I was looking for last summer. I use this primarily as a rock crawler, I call it my 70 year old side-by-side (but way better). I have run many trails through Moab and just recently ran Chinamans Gulch in Buena Vista, Colorado and the trail to Wheeler Lake. I am constantly making improvements to the gearing and drivetrain to have a rock solid build that will take years of abuse.

I’m with you, I have no desire for a 4 wheeler, a side-by-side or a golf cart, which are ubiquitous in South Carolina. I love my ’49 Jeep, it has Class.

Hello! Very nice “side by side”! I really like the look of the rims and tires. What are the specifics of the wheel and tire package if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks again for sharing.

Tyler,
I had a Jeep very similar to yours with a 198 V-6 and Warn overdrive. I have had the opportunity to see many of the routes like chinamans gulch. Above all the 5:38 gearing in the axles is a great asset for your use. I only wish that I lived closer to your area so that I could do more of it. Consider a n overdrive for it and you will find that a combination of 4WD low in the TC with the overdrive engaged is an extreme asset. Also have you ever met the Matejka”s? They are Colorado transplants that I have known for a long time, good people.

Absolutely love it!
Absolutely love it!
Why are the springs on the bottom of the axels? Don’t they tend to drag through the mud and dirt? And what about ground clearance? I bought a WILLY’S PICK-UP back in November 2022 and would like to restore it.
or even sell it.
I thought I would save it from the crasher.

Love your build, seeing Jeeps like yours inspire me to finish my ‘52 3A. What brand and size are your tires? I’d like to run the original 16” wheels but would like an alternative option to the non directional tires that are available.
