This is my 1962 CJ-5 Willys. I got it from a friend in December 2020, it was her dad’s before he passed. They lived in Arizona so there wasn’t any rust. It had been sitting for 7 years in storage before I got it, we put gas and a battery in it and it started right up. We drove it around the yard and pulled into the carport, everything worked good. So my two sons and I took it apart and started the rebuild. About 97% of the parts we used came from Kaiser Willys, they have been awesome to work with and had a big inventory of replacement parts. Nine months later it was going down the road, at 45mph lol. All of the work was done by us including the painting. It is painted the original color which is Peacock Blue. It was a fun project and my sons and I spent a lot of quality time together.

A flat head 4 banger in a CJ-7? Who put that in? They usually had the F-head tornado in them.

Looks great. the time spent working together is most likely the real win. the Jeep is everyone memento of the experience.

Looks like someone changed the engine. should have the hurricane F head 4 cyl. You have a nice setup. One thing you might consider is installing a saturn overdrive. I have one in both my 67 cj5 and my M38A1. It does wonders for the top speed on the open road. It will give you 6 forward gear selections and 2 reverse speeds.(Not that you need to go faster in reverse)
Your jeep looks real good. Nice Job.

I am also puzzled by the L-head 4 go-devil engine, I thought they came stock with a F-head 4 hurricane,”55-“71 or a V-6 Dauntless engine.’66-’71 beautiful paint work.

Hi Leonard,
Apparently the engine was swapped before I got the jeep. However, I have a F- Head 4 Hurricane that I am rebuilding for a replacement when this one quits.

Actually the true “Peacock Blue” original Jeep color was a non metallic light blue, way different than this metallic dark Peacock Blue.
I still have an early 60’s CJ-5 brochure which shows the real Jeep Peacock Blue in one picture. It perhaps has a very tiny bit of Green, but generally would be considered a Light Blue. In that body color, the wheels were white. It was a beautiful Jeep color combination!
I actually had my 1956 CJ-5 painted in that combination from about 1962 to about 2002 or so.
I repaired body rust at that time and got it repainted a beautiful metallic Blue Green.
I have had it since 1960.
