David Cissel's 1947 CJ-2A

David Cissel's 1947 CJ-2A

As the story goes, once upon a time way back in 1947 my Mom and Dad purchased a 1947 CJ-2A Willys to help out on the farm in Poolsville Md. As time went by and the Parents passed away, Brothers and Sisters married and moved on, I Retired from the Navy with 20 years then Retired from Walt Disney World with 23 Years. My Nephew mentioned that his Uncle has an old jeep that as been sitting in his barn for over 20 years. A few phone calls and $200.00 later, I now had a new project. This called for a road trip from Florida to Virginia to pick up a Jeep purchased sight un-seen. Low and behold it turns out to be a 1947 CJ-2A Ser# J107109. To this day, I can not prove that it IS the same Jeep that I drove around as an 11 year old and I can not prove that it IS NOT the same Jeep. The first photo is a shot of my parents 1947 CJ-2A on the farm.

1947 CJ-2A from start to finish. Just break open the Piggie Bank, add a lot of parts from Kaiser Willys Auto Supply, add a sprinkle of time now and then and don’t forget the box of bandages. Also drive Mike crazy with phone calls on how to do this, that, and the other.

  1. My Dad had a ’47 2A that he bought for hunting back in the ’60’s and was “mine to drive” – sorta – when I turned 16. But then I moved away from home…………………..kinda wish I still had it around. Now I’ve got a ’55 3B that the only thing stock or original on it is the tub and 2012 Rubicon – with lots of modifications too. Just can’t leave them alone. :>)

  11. man your jeep looks cool. the first jeep that my dad bought in 1972 was a 43 Willys. he paid $ 400.00 plus we got a trailer to haul it home on. for some reason someone had brazed a quarter to the center of the steering wheel. i never got to drive it, but i more than made up for it on the next jeep that he bought a 1969 CJ-5. my friends and i just about drove the wheels off that thing .

  13. Congratulations on this fine restoration! I am in the middle of restoring my mid 47 CJ2A, had invested heavily in replacement parts for it – all from Kaiser Willys. The only non original addition to my Willys is a front gear driven winch that I bought from a friend of mine.
My original color was Normandy Blue – I think the same as what you did on yours? I am considering a partial soft top for it.
People like you and projects done right have inspired me to push on with mine – Thanks!
