My name is Chelsea Lowberg, and I am pleased to introduce you to our two Jeeps. My husband has a 1975 CJ-5 that, until this spring, spent its entire existence on his father’s farm in Rupert, VT. It has 30k original miles, has had only 2 owners, and many adventures. I have included photos of its condition as we found it (it still needs restoration!) and a somewhat gruesome photo of it as it used to be used.

The 48 Jeepster was purchased in Maine in the mid 1980s. It was a sentimental purchase for my Mom, as her first car was a ‘49 inherited from her older sister in the 1960’s. I have included an old yearbook photo from ‘69. The Jeepster has been a part of our family as long as I can remember, and has punctuated most of the important events in my life. When we moved to VT (mom worked for Hemmings Motor News) it was her commuter car every summer. It was usually filled with kids, yard sale treasures, and the occasional hitch hiker. Once we were even caught in a parade when we accidentally took a wrong turn. Mom died in May, and I drive the car around as she would have—top down, singing my heart out, messy hair. I love it almost as much as she did.

  3. Good morning – The top on the CJ-5 is worth a few dollars, especially in northern states with lots of snowfall. I’d love to find one for my ’49 CJ-3A. Any of them laying around your area? Thanks again for sharing. Bob

  7. That is a beautiful stable of Jeeps you have; one for show and one for go.

And, the one picture wasn’t all that gruesome for a bunch of Jeep folks.

  9. Awesome photos and story.

Love the Jeepster. It looks to be in fantastic shape. The CJ5 looks fine to me as well.

Also, I love the fur photo that you call gruesome. From a farmers perspective, that is an awesome photo and I’m sure the folks shown in the picture were rightfully proud of their winter’s work, either trapping or hunting.

  11. I love women who LOVE old vehicles. My wife likes old vehicles, but doesn’t love them. There’s a big difference. There’s no sentiment when you only like old vehicles. When you love them, you don’t worry about spending money on them or how little mpg they get.
I also appreciate the color of the Jeepster, it looks more original than the the bright candy-colors that most folks have them painted. It’s a nice change.
I’m with you on the “gruesome” scene of pelts, or maybe complete animals.( Hard to tell.)
    Good story.

  15. Would you consider selling either or both of your vehicular past? I am old enough to remember each of these vehicles. Always wanted them. Am now living in upstate NY. The favor of a reply would be very welcomed. Thanks in advance, Wayne
