Purchased in 1967 by my father, this 1965 CJ-5 has been a part of our family ever since. I was 14 when he bought it and that began a life and legacy of hunting and off road use. At 15 while my parents were at work and before I possessed my drivers license I took the Jeep for a joy ride to my friends house a couple miles from home in Anaheim, California. Lucky for me, no accidents occurred and I had it safely back in the garage before my dad ever knew the difference.
I learned to drive the stick shift on that Jeep as well as my two children. We have had that Jeep from the Colorado rockies to the high deserts of California on many an adventure. At 60 years old “Wild Willys” is still running, but I see problems coming in the future. There is going to be a big fight as to which of my two children will get it after I give up the ghost.
