A friend of my wife’s had a 1947 Willys CJ-2A that was partly disassembled and had been sitting in her yard exposed to the weather for several years. She wanted to sell it to someone who would restore it to its original state. We looked it over and agreed this would be a fun project.

I started my restoration June of 2018. After completely disassembling it down to the bare frame, I spent time mixed with work and other projects rebuilding every component. I reused as many original parts as possible only using new replacement parts to replace missing and non-reusable parts. I finished this project in October 2022. When I say finished, it was completed to the point it runs and drives well and looks like new. I guess I will never be completely finished as I continue replacing the replica parts when I find good original or NOS parts to replace them. One day it will be finished and I hope to pass it along to my family.

  1. Greetings! I certainly appreciate your task and congratulate you on your commitment to the past! I drive a CJ-2A (in nice weather) and I was with my parents (age 3) when they bought it! My Dear Mama taught me to drive in it and I taught my son so you can see that “Jeep” is definitely part of the family. Jeep is completely stock still being 6 Volts and proud of it. Jeep has always been a work vehicle and has lots of scratches and nicks and dent to prove it. This past summer Jeep was called on to pull my neighbor’s shrubs and did so magnificently and I leave a chain on the passenger floor just for such occasions and have also retrieved many vehicles from being stuck out here in the hills!
Should you ever be in this part of Idaho please drop by and we’ll have some nice Jeep chatting!!
