Tyson Boheler's 1965 CJ-5

159: Tyson Boheler’s 1965 CJ-5 Jeep

This 1965 with an F-134 and dual lever transfer case was a Craigslist find up in Landrum. I was the first one to get to it and bought it. I’ve swapped out some parts since I bought it in February. It has gotten a replacement master cylinder, center link, and all new cooling hoses to get it back to roadworthy status. I added some fender flares, stainless steel entry guards and hood hinges. The next items slated are a complete exhaust kit, tires, a custom made swing away spare tire rack, top, and piece by piece body part replacement. It gets driven around the burbs and people look. When I had it out getting the brake and steering work done since I don’t have the facilities or time, the shop manager said many people came by and asked about it. I plan on keeping this one. Mechanically it is in very good shape and the body will be as I work on it.

  1. Great project! I’d love to find a CJ5 with an original V6 or V8 for a resto project. Looks like you have a great find there and a good platform for an original restoration. Please post your progress.

  3. Tyson,
Great looking Jeep! We are almost done with a restoration of a 65 CJ5. I’m about to start tire shopping and I like the look of yours. Can you tell me what size tires you have on that?

  5. I had no idea that this page existed until just a few minutes ago.

The 65 has been an on and off battle for a few years.

    I’m glad people like it.

My Willys jeep looks a bit different now. I hope to have it cleaned up, painted/powdercoated, and major mechanical done by the end of this year – 2019.

I’m doing better about pictures and video. For a long time that stuff sat.
