I found this Army Jeep that had been sitting neglected in a sugar shack here in NH. I’ve gone through it and replaced all the hoses, belts, fluids, wires, etc… I installed a new carburetor, brakes, exhaust system, and had the fuel pump rebuilt by Kaiser Willys, who have been my go to source for most of the parts. I am a 25 year veteran of the RI National Guard and the first Army vehicle I drove while attending MP school was a Jeep much like mine. I couldn’t wait to own one! I’ve taken it to many cruise nights and car shows and my favorite experience so far was to meet an 89 year old Korean War veteran whose face lit up when he saw the Jeep and started sharing stories of his time in the service with his family and I.

Nice job. I have a M38A1 that is in better shape than the M151 I was issued as a LT. I had a woman approach me when I was teaching at a college in GA who asked if I would let her disabled Korean War vet husband sit in it. I took him for a ride which delighted us both.

I love seeing photos. I have a 1964 M38A1 . I too am restoring. There is so much to learn and I have learned one thing the pictures are the key to the success of any restoration job. I thought I was taking a lot of pictures but I guess in retrospect I really didn’t. I’m at the reassembling stage the fun stage I think. But also a stage without many pictures create difficulties. Another new big issue is not having a jeep in my area to look at as I’m rebuilding mine it’s one thing to see pictures but it’s another to see things in person and look around it. I live in Salt Lake City if anybody out there close to Salt Lake City has a restored am 38A1 please let me know. I would love to come by and look at it and share my pictures. And my story As well as plucking your brain and learning what I can from you. I’m restoring it back to the 24 V. Someone is taking it and completely hacked it up but I need not tell anybody who doing this with an expense it is but it’s also gratifying. So SOS is there any M38A1 ,Willys jeeps restored in the Salt Lake area.

I like it! I have a ’51 M38 I am just getting started on. I appreciate that you did not go overboard in the restoration (like, did not straighten the fenders to pristine shape) so it looks much more like the service vehicle it was originally built to be. I am sure this is more how anyone who drove one when “new” would have remembered them.

Charlie,
I need some help. I have a 1953 M38A1 that a friend is helping rebuild. We ordered new wiring harness from Walck. I need some pictures of the firewall for wire routing to the components and lights turn signals etc. It is now converted to 12v. Please help.

Hi I have two M38A1’s and have been thinking of selling them. I have the canvas summer tops for both. Have a reproduction .50 MG in the one. Need front cushion sets for both. What are they worth with a Korean War color paint job and non military tread tires(Snow Tires) on them? One is still the original 24v and the other has been converted to 12v.
