My Jeep was build in 1967, Ohio and exported to the Swiss Army. At retirement, it was sold and exported to South Africa. This Jeep is 100% original with matching Engine and Chassis numbers according to the data plates and papers. This is the only registered M606A2 in South Africa. The M606A2 is the export version of the M38A1. It has the Willys hurricane 2.2 engine. Total restoration period took 8 years. Everything has been stripped down to the chassis. The chassis has been sand blasted and resprayed, then all body parts were resprayed. Also the engine and gearbox have been completely rebuilt.

The very first thing I noticed is there are two types of front fenders. One has a flat spot on the flair, the other does not. This circumstance happened with replacement parts on later versions of the M38A1 CDN 2 and 3. Very neat restoration!

Did the M606A2 not originally have 24V waterproof ignition and charging system? This is a beautiful restoration!

The right fender is correct. The left fender is a replacement from a later vehicle model.
The M606A2 and M606A3 are military export versions of the CJ5 not the m38A1. They did not come with military waterproof harnesses. The main difference between the two models are: M606A2 (12 Volt generator powered electrics) ,
M606A3 (12 Volt generator powered chassis electrical system with a separate 24 volt alternator powered radio electrical system)
There was never an M606A1. There was only the M606 which was a military export model of the CJ3B.
