115: Edward Santiesteban’s 1947 Willys CJ-2A

We bought this 1947 CJ2-A from a friend 35 years ago. It was in bad shape when we purchased the Willys. So it became a family project to restore it. We all got involved fixing and restoring it. Not only was it a family Jeep our little niece and nephew enjoy riding in the Willys.

We are on our second restoration now due to some T.L.C. Since we are restoring the Willys for the second time due to a 2006 flood that we had here at our Southwest Texas [ El Paso ]. This Willys is our pride and joy. We use it around the little farm to do chores and outdoor activities. This Jeep served its country and is now happily in our family.

  1. I have a 1953 willys jeep cj3b almost like the one that you have but different, the one that I got was from my cousin and was rusted out, I have to rebuild from frame on up including the motor, all that is left of my jeep is both front & rear axel, right now I haven’t had the money backing me to be able to rebuild the jeep. 3. My first Jeep was a 1946 CJ-2A and I restored it, and then modified it with the usual modifications for that time. 1963 buick V-6, Hudson steering sector, Warn overdrive, full tie rod up front, and Power-lock differentials both ends. I still have the service manual W/a red cover for this vehicle and had the burma radiator that was so effective it handled thV-6 when I put it in it.. The only thing that got it away from me was that the frame rusted out or I would still have it. 24-26 MPG gas on the road and I drove it 80 mph one time when I got short passing someone. A friend once said if you were in the middle of the sahara deseert had had to rely on a vehicle to get you out it would be the original Jeep CJ’s or the FJ40 cruiser.
