This 1968 Willys-Mitsubishi J3 (CJ-3B) Jeep was built in Japan under license from Willys in the 60s and was used by the Japanese Self Defense Forces until it was decommissioned sometime in the 80s. I acquired it via private sale and began doing minor restoration work while stationed in Okinawa from 2019 till present.

Over the last 3 years with the help of Kaiser Willys I have been able to successfully restore the majority of the interior and have been able to completely rewire the Jeep from front to back. I have done a considersble amount to the engine as well. The Jeep will be coming back stateside with me to join my fathers CJ-5 in summer of 2023. It is a great reminder of the CJ-2A I had as my first vehicle when I was a young man.

I knew the French used Willys Jeeps after WW-II, but didn’t know about Mitsubishi building them under license. I’m curious about the logos on the wall behind the Jeep. The newer of the two has an image of a Tori gate added. What do the items in the logo represent?
Thanks,
Glenn

Hi
Very cool jeep . What is most interesting for me is the jeep is righthand drive . In Australia locally built jeeps were righthand drive and imported jeeps were lefthand drive . So we have a mix of vehicles from the 50s and 60s. The Australian Air Force had CJ 3 B jeeps as base vehicles in the 1950s.
Keep on Jeeping 🙂

does this JEEP have a Mitsubishi diesel engine ? Willys used to make a CJ-5, CJ-6 and possibly a CJ- 3B with a 4 cyl.Perkins 192 Diesel engine ,but as usual they turned in into a collectors item by halting sales before the fuel problems of the 70’s ,most went to overseas markets .
