Isaac Grover's 1952 Willys CJ-3A

Isaac Grover's 1952 Willys CJ-3A

I’ve always loved old Willys Jeeps since I was little. Finally in September of 2018 I found this guy at a price I couldn’t pass up! Ever since it has unintentionally become my daily driver. Nothing show worthy, but this is definitely a strong runner. I had the engine rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. Body is a mix-match of parts and sheet metal, but mostly a ‘52. Here in the Midwest roads are salted horribly, which means instant rust. I feel it’s a crime if a Jeep can’t see snow though, so I drive it anyway. I’ll just buy new body panels or a tub if it gets too bad to just repair as is. It has come in handy more then once in snowstorms. Always gets me home from work, and always saves my friends a towing bill when they get their cars stuck!

  1. Great photos and story! My 47 was my daily driver during some of the worst weather back in the mid 1980s. 25 below and it started every time and got me to work every day without fail.

  3. Great to see the old ones back on the road. If I am reading the time frame and mileage correctly he has driven this Jeep 10,000 miles in five months for an average of 500 miles a week!
If correct then all I can say is wow!

  5. Keep ’em rolling I say! My 1st encounter was my dad’s 46 CJ2a as a kid in the 60’s. I’ve had a bunch of Jeeps, my 1st being a 79 CJ-7 (Golden Eagle). Yes – I wish I still had it…. Once it’s in the blood. So wonderful to see this as a daily driver!!!

  7. 10000 Miles is really nothing if you are on the road everyday covering a certain distance. I did 20000 in less than three months in my CJ-5 in the late 70,s back and forth to the airport in Caracas Venezuela. Great vehicle. I am sorry I sold it, it would have still be with me if I hadn’t Now I drive a VW MKII, 30 years old and still running. Cheers to all jeep drivers.

  11. Great to see these time capsules still being used and enjoyed, some people after riding in them don’t get it but that’s OK, they aren’t for everyone, if they were there wouldn’t be enough to go around.
Thanks for keeping the legend alive and well.

  13. My ‘ CJ-2A is so slow, it could never be a daily driver, without an overdrive. I just tool around our 10 acres on paths I made with my tractor. Ya’ know, it doesn’t have to be perfect to show it.. At the American Truck Historical Society and the Antique Truck Club of America shows, we welcome all, no matter what shape their in. You should look into it.. Everyone likes looking at jeeps and the old Jeeps were considered trucks.

    Good luck and have fun.

  15. Love the story, I learned to drive in my Dad’s 46 CJ-2A, he had it kinda restored by his paint employee and the body was still in almost new shape, but this was in 58, so only 12 years old then, and I was 12 so you can do the math. Now I have to many of these old Willys and ready to sell a few, 2A’s PIckup’s even a Jeepster, and all in like new condition. Any takers

  17. Wonderful story. Always good to see Jeeps in use. Reminds me of my WW2 Ford GPW (jeep) that I drove to work during the 80s and 90s during winter. Lots of great fun at -45F in Alaska and pretty dang cold in Minot, ND.
