494: Bill Dawson’s 1949 Willys CJ-3A

This Willys had been previously restored by a former owner. It still has the six volt electrical system but the original oil bath air cleaner had been replaced by a paper filter. The sale to me included most of the original oil bath parts and I am now restoring it to original.

  1. You have a ‘3A windshield as mine did. t is a nice restoration, and there is nothing substandard about the 6 volt ignition system. For proper continuity there must be the ground under the generator to the frame and it should roll over and start at full choke & 1/4 throttle -20 degrees.

  3. It actually is a CJ3A. Someone at Kaiser-Willys made a labeling error. I have since acquired a full set of 16” wheels including a pin striped spare with the help of my friend Chuck (pictured beside my 2003 TJ Rubicon). My wife, Carol, and I took it to last years Colorado Fall Colors Tour where it performed admirably.
