Susan Goodrich's 1948 Willys Truck

160: Susan Goodrich’s 1948 Willys Truck

When I was 15 my dad traded and got a 50’s model Jeep pickup, dark blue with light blue trim, it was to be my first truck. I worked on it each day when I came home from school, it turned out the motor had thrown a rod and we needed a new engine. One day I came home from school and it was gone. I never forgot that old truck, and have been on the look out for one ever since. It took a lot of years, and a few trips to old junk yards, but I finally found one. He was advertised in a newspaper “1948 Jeep pickup for sale” I couldn’t wait to go see him. I knew as soon as I saw him, he would be mine. When I brought him home he was dark green, and rusty, he didn’t run and all his tires were flat and different sizes. He had 2 inches of tar spilled in the bed, he was an old farm truck and he had been well used. It didn’t take long to get him running, a little tinkering with the carburetor and we took him for a spin in the yard. I was so excited, we decided to take him up the dirt road we live on to see how he would run. As we were going along everything seemed fine until he started to shimmy and we discovered the rear end U-bolts were rusted in half, we almost lost him right there. That was the last trip for a while. It took most of this summer to get him ready to paint and we have been working in the interior for a few weeks now. Surprisingly all the gauges work and he even has the original radio. He still has quite a bit of mechanical work before he’ll to be ready for the road, but I plan to drive him.

  7. Check out my two trucks
Have a 48 black and a 49 same color and rad rod wheels and rims. I bought it, saved it from becoming a rat rod , added wood rails, interior, etc, but still have to put truck tires and rims on it…. Drives great, working project. Same color, looks nice like yours
