Dad bought this Willys Truck in 1948 to haul coal through the narrow alleys in Altoona, PA. Over the years, he hauled a variety of things, including coal, firewood, stone, hay & even Girl Scouts when they got stranded. Unfortunately, the bed had a load of manure on it, which the girls had to sit.

When Dad lost his job as a machinist working for the Altoona railroad, he found work in York, PA. In 1952, my parents decided to move to York & every week when Dad would leave for work in York, he would take a Jeep load of furniture & belongings with him. He had a friend there who owned a jewelry store who did not trust movers & he had Dad move his inventory for him. Dad plowed tons of snow with it & helped those needing to be pulled out of snowbanks. My sons & I restored the truck, which is semi-retired now, but sometimes it’s used to haul things or remove bushes & help take down trees.
