Our 1948 CJ-2A Willys has been in our family since the late 1950’s. He was used on many hunting trips by my Dad and brothers and for many thrilling off road adventures by all of our family. I actually learned to drive out on the prairie in our Jeep. He played a huge part in my childhood memories. After my Dad’s death in 1967, Willy wasn’t driven as much and was parked outside at the mercy of the elements. In 1993, my brother Monte towed him to his house where he got him running again and used him to help build his mountain home. After Monte’s retirement he began restoring Willy. He spent lots of money and time on his project, but he said it was a labor of love and that he enjoyed every minute of it. He was meticulous in his work and insisted on using only quality USA made parts. Everything mechanical has been replaced or repaired and our old jeep is in great running condition. We decided to leave the exterior as it is because it reflects his history and character. On the 50th anniversary of my Dad’s passing Monte gave me possession of this important part of our family. It is a gift I will always treasure and will pass on to my family. Willy is 72 years old and still running strong with new generations including Dad’s great grandchildren!

So I have a 1950 jeepster purchased by my mom in 1949. Yes it has never been restored but looks great and we drive it in parades with our grandchildren. It is about to be used in my younger daughter wedding. More later

Enjoyed reading the story and family history with your Willys. I have a 47 -Cj2a, and although not been in my family long, I have restored it in similar fashion and will leave to my son and grandson to enjoy.

Mine has the same name, I too, refer to my Jeeps as “HE”. No ‘Sissy’ Jeeps at my house either.
Mines a ’46, He was in terrible shape when I got him. My daughter learned to drive him perfectly at age 8, He will become hers when I kick off. I am trying to make her wait a long time.

What a great story and an amazing gift. Your brother is very generous as Jeep’s (especially Willys) are hard to give up 🙂
I’m sure your dad is smiling down on all of you and glad to see Willy is living a wonderful life.
