Colin Lanfair's 1960 CJ-5

My 1960 CJ-5 has been in the family since the late 1980s when my grandfather purchased it, to serve as his woods vehicle. Since I was 4 years old or so I remember the Jeep sitting in the woods and it would start every time. We would spend all day out on it whether hunting or just enjoying the day. When I was older, I learned to drive manual in it and he gave it to me to restore. Nobody expected me to get it road worthy due to it’s derelict condition. After 7 years of hard work and determination, and from the help of the crew of Kaiser Willys she is finally done and now my grandfather, father, my son and myself can enjoy it for years to come. Paint is O.E Willys color Fountain Green Poly. The drive train is original, F134 engine and T90 transmission with the D18 transfer case.

  1. Colin! Great work! It is so inspiring to see that you kept your Jeep “original” and did not put some huge engine in it and such. I’ve seen many restorations of beautiful quality of work but that have destroyed a legend to make a “freak” of sorts.
    My situation is somewhat unique in that I was with my parents in 1946 when they purchased a CJ-2A that I still drive!! LOL It is absolutely original still with the “Go Devil” engine and still 6 Volts. My Mama taught me to drive in it and I taught my son.
    Your finished product looks terrific and you deserve to be proud of your work. From the pictures it appears you had your work cut out for you.

  3. Amen to original engines. I always like it when engine photos are included. I have a M38A1 and kept it original down to the waterproof spark plug wires. I did have the radiator recored. You wouldn’t know it by looking.

    Have a 66 and am working towards upsizing a bit, like you did.

  7. Nice job! Until recently, I never knew Willys had so many factory colors. I like the NRA sticker in the window, too! And I noticed the blue paint on the hubs to indicate locked or unlocked. I thought I was the only one that did that.
