119: Steve Kreisher’s 1962 DJ-3A

It seems you are in short supply of DJ-3A pics. My project is two years so far, and currently in pieces, but even the ‘before’ pics can show the character and differences of a two wheel drive DJ.

Two years ago, this was found at a yard sale after 15 years of being under a tarp, and its unique logo ID’d it as the one my uncle owned, and I rode in as a kid in the 60’s. It is a 1962 Dispatcher-DJ-3A, he called “Nellybelle”. I bought it and am giving her a total ‘makeover’ with the help of Kaiser Willys parts. Hope to be done by the end of the year.

  5. Thanks for the comments. Doug, Dj3A’s were only made from 59-64 using Cj3A parts mostly, but with a straight axle for 2WD…meant to be an inexpensive delivery vehicle. This one has a serial number falling in about March of 61 productions, but Willys assigns titles at Point of Sale, which was Feb 62. I have the original Bill of Sale indicating delivery address “Siesta Groves, Florida”, which is what the logo with a sleeping Mexican say on the sides, indicating this IS the very same Jeep my uncle owned. It took me a year to find where it was, but I knew I had to have it when I saw it again after all those years and memories.

  7. Thanks for the pics! It’d be a hard sell for someone that doesn’t know flatfenders that those four lug wheels belong on it! I hope the resto goes well, keep the rest of us nuts updated!!
