  1. Automobile universal joints are based on a ball and socket configuration. By moving the UJ around you can easily determine if the joint is in pristine condition or is rotating freely and unsupported.

    Industrial UJs though have inbuilt lubrication and the leakages of that lubricant gives a clear indication of wear and tear
