After finally finishing my 1974 Bronco project which I have had for 38 years I began to look for a new project vehicle. An old friend of mine (John) took me to his barn and said “how about this?” In his barn was a 1970 CJ-5 which had been sitting there for 30 years, next to it sat the 6 cylinder engine which was pulled out to fix a freeze plug oil leak. I instantly fell in love with it. He wheeled it hard for 20 years as can be proven from the dash full of plaques from the early 1970’s. It’s called the “Yellow Submarine” which has a long story involving a deep river crossing. The Jeep even came with an M416 military trailer which per the metal ID tag was originally a Telecommunications trailer in the Vietnam War. John used to pull this trailer through the Rubicon back in the day and even took it on a 3 week trip through Mexico with his Jeep club.

What a great find. Lots of miles and smiles left in that Jeep.

What a great find! I agree, a true classic that was built for durability and (probably) fun too. Good luck with the project! My 68 basket case is getting close to road ready after nearly 3 years. I’m looking around for the next project.
