I was born and raised in Utah. My dad always had a flat-fender around growing up so naturally I loved them. When I got to an age I could reach the pedals, I was driving off road and loving it. I loved wrenching on the old rusty Jeeps my dad would bring home. I wasn’t the only one to get hooked in my family, my two older brothers have Jeeps and IH Scouts. My CJ-2A came from my dad. Him and I purchased and resurrected it together. The L head engine was seized and the T90 transmission was full of water. With about a year of work, it was back on the road. I ran it stock for a few years until a fellow coworker came across a little Kubota V2203 diesel engine for a great price. Being a diesel technician for a local Caterpillar dealer, my wheels started turning and the modifications started. I purchased an engine adapter from Overland diesel to connect the transmission to the engine. Swapped in a later model Dana 30 front axle with factory disc brakes. The rear Dana 44 was modified to be a full float then installed “Brennan’s garage” disc brake brackets. The little diesel averages 25-30 mpg with impressive power.

Jake! Outstanding! Diesel Jeep, and most importantly you did not butcher the hood. Love to hear about upgrades and mods without destroying the historic look of the jeep. When I have time, I will submit an article about my special v6 conversion. You are in Utah and so am I. I hope we can meet and start a Willys Rally in the state. Nice work my friend. I have asked Kaiser Willys to provide you my contact information. Ohra! Long live the Flat Fenders!

Where are you located in Utah?
I have a 1953 Willys CJ3A that has been in my garage since 1973. This Jeep has only about 25K miles on it. I am 86 years old and can’t do a lot of work on the Jeep.
Do you know someone who might be interested in reviving my Jeep for me? I’d love to get this Jeep back in the mountains and tour the back roads.
