While this isn’t a pure GPW, this 76 year old still has many of the original parts. I bought it from the previous owner’s widow. She wanted it to go to a local veteran. I spent 21 years in the US Army as a Military Policeman. The Willys Jeeps were being phased out when I went to Basic Training in 1993, so all I got to drive were HMMWVs. However, when this opportunity arose, I jumped at it. I am constantly improving the Jeep and plan on painting it the Army Olive Green that is under the hood in the near future. I recently replaced the seat cushions.
Every Memorial Day, my GPW is in at least two parades. As long as I can walk, I march in the parade. One of our Korean War veterans usually drives it with a few of our WWII veterans enjoying the ride. I can think of no better way to utilize this wonderful machine in my community. As long as I am alive and this is running, it will continue to represent the veterans of Lenox, Massachusetts past, present, and future. It is a labor of love keeping this Jeep going and improving it. My son is my assistant mechanic and I hope that he will carry on the traditions we have started.
