680: Bill Davis’ 1959 CJ-5 Jeep

It had been sitting out in a field for several years up here in Colorado. I got it running a couple times–diddling with the fuel system when I first got it. The CJ-5 appeared that someone had started some rehab at one time and seemed to be all in one piece. I brought it up to speed about 10 years ago and it continues going on Jeep rides every year in the mountains of Colorado.

  1. I have a 55’ CJ3B which is the third one I’ve owned. My first was also a 55’ that I bought in downtown Philadelphia while in high school for $300. It was a rust free project that I was fortunate enough to rebuild with my Dad.
My second 3B was a 62’ that I bought with the money I made working overtime after a flood in Roanoke, Va. in 1984.
This one I bought last year. I enjoy working on it with my wife who painted the Popeye the Sailors on either side. She is quite talented.
We live in Crystal River, Fl and own one of the only flatties around. It turns heads wherever we go and the girls really like it.
I these old Jeeps are great fun and you won’t get any speeding tickets driving around town.
