164: Cari Lee’s 1948 Willys CJ-2A
I bought my 1948 CJ2-A last month from an estate sale. The owner, a US Air Force veteran, had recently passed away so his family was forced to sell the Jeep. I instantly fell in love and HAD to have it. I placed a bid and was called the next day with the sad news that I had been out-bid. I was sad, but assumed it just wasn’t meant to be. Two days later I received another call that the person who had out bid me, backed out, and the Jeep was mine for the taking. I drove straight there and paid for the Jeep and brought her home (via trailer). She has since been worked on by my dad and I and she’s in great running condition. The previous owner had painted her like the old army Jeeps so I plan on keeping it that way. The original engine is still in it so I can only cruise around at about 45mph, but I don’t mind.
My dogs love the Jeep and although they look like little prissy dogs, they are country through and through; they run with the big boys. I can’t wait to take the Jeep to the Sierra Nevada Mountains to go camping and take her on the trails. She still is awaiting a name, but I have the feeling it won’t take long.

Cari– You are one lucky girl! As for names, how about “Nelly Bell”? I have ’62 CJ5, which my son and I got 3 yrs. ago, fixed up, & took it to car show in the summer. Runs great, but my wife would still like a CJ2A, which we had 40 years ago. Old jeeps are so much fun. Don.
NICE JEEP!! IHAVE ONE JUST LIKE IT; WAS PASSED TO ME FROM MY GRANDFATHER MY SON NOW HAS IT AND IS RESTORING IT. GOING TO THE JEEP FESTIVAL THIS YEAR CAN’T WAIT MY 1ST TIME THERE WILL YOU BE THERE WITH YOUR JEEP?
Good looking jeep and driver. I also have an 1948 cj2 that I bought that went through a tornado. Figured I could restore the body but no such luck. Need to purchase new tub but am able to restore the front end, fenders, hood, grill etc. May be able to have it done by the end of the year . It is a solo job by an 83 year old man but with persistence, done.
I am a Willys fan & owner of 2 CJ-3A’s swiss army specials, but Cari looks even better…..and her cute Yorks too. What type of food do u feed your doggies? Many WW II Willys will be in Normandy on June 6th (70 years anniversary of D-Day). Have fun with your new acquisition!
Nice find Cari. They are not that clean hear in Michigan. Keep her she is good looking! You look good in it too.
Good job Miss Cari. Keep on restoring these old warhorses.

Hey Cari Lee, i hope my 48 turns out as nice as yours. Congrats on your purchase and 45 mph is fast enough.
Great looking and well-kept Jeep, Cari !! Enjoy. btw, my Yorkie loves my M38 just the same !
You can paint it Navy Gray because, thats what the Navy used CJ’s, with no jerry can or spear tier.
