123: Jimmy Parks’ 1961 M170 Jeep

I found this in a hangar in San Antonio, it has been sitting there since 1968. I decided that since there are very few of these around that I’d do a restoration and make it usable on our place in Utopia, Texas. Been working on it for almost two years now and it’s finally taking shape. All that is remaining to do is obtain the USMC decals. What a hoot to run around in! Does great at 35-40, scary as hell any faster than that.

  1. What brand/color of paint did you use? That’s exactly the “right” color of OD that I’m looking for on my project.

  3. Jimmy:

Very nice your Jeep, and very rare, obviously, in USA and mainly here in Brazil. It is difficult to see one like yours. Congratulations for your Job. I desire that you can enjoy it for many year! Best regards,

  13. Good looking restoration. I have just acquired a 1954 M 170 It was issued as an ambulance (per the data plates. SN 10386) to the USMC. They converted it into a Command and Control radio vehicle.
I found it in a storage unit in Springfield, VT. I need some Council and guidance. Where did you find the canvas sides and top? Approximate cost. I hope that mine comes out some where looking as good as yours!

    Thanks Jack V.
