How to remove the pedal cross shaft from your Willys Jeep – Part of an ongoing “Jeep” disassembly and restoration series sponsored by Kaiser Willys.
To remove the brake & clutch pedal cross shaft, first remove the pedal return spring from the intermediate crossmember bracket. Next, remove the cotter pin, washer and pedal clamp bolt from the clutch pedal arm. Slide the clutch pedal arm away from the cross shaft.
Inside the frame, remove the cotter pin from the pedal shaft next to the brake pedal arm. To disconnect the master cylinder tie bar, loosen the master cylinder then free the Tie bar from the cross shaft. Remove the cotter pin, master cylinder eye bolt and washer from the brake pedal. Slide the brake pedal arm off of the pedal cross shaft. Then pull the cotter pin from clutch control pedal rod and remove rod.
On the outside of the frame, remove the pedal to shaft key and pedal shaft washer. Push the pedal cross shaft through the retaining assembly to remove.
