In the first picture the guy riding shotgun is my DAD, a WWII vet and we are getting ready to head down main drag in a Memorial Day Parade. This is in celebration of his WWII story in the book The Hero Next Door TM Returns http://www.heronextdoor.com/hubbard.html. He told me that day this was not going to be his most eventful ride in a Jeep that had come at the end of WWII and there was a pool of blood on the floor from him after he had stepped on a landmine. This ride was eventful too but much more fun for him and me. Dad got me interested in Jeeps when I was a kid (11 or 12) he took the family out to Colorado Springs he had relatives there and they took us trail riding in their old Jeep and thought at the time I should get one. As time passed school, wife, kids etc. it never happened until my wife of 30+ years said one day I read about a Jeep for sale are you still interested. We test drove that afternoon home the next. That’s the Jeep in the photos and I gave my Dad a ride in the Memorial Day Parade back in 2001 in it. The Jeep looks and runs even better these days.
When I bought the 48 CJ-2A late 90s it was in so so shape and need some restoration. But the Kids were the right age between 10 to 14 years old to learn about basic car mechanics so it became a teaching tool as we took it apart labeling everything. We repaired, rebuild and replaced the results is what you see in the photos. The kids learned basic and some not so basic mechanics, welding, wiring milling we all learned about six volt systems etc. So the old Jeep became part of the family now it’s been in many more parades to three proms (I could see the boys taking it but when my daughter pick up her date that was something of course the date could not drive stick so it was all up to her) homecoming activities etc. The kids have grown off to college but the old Jeep remains at home and we get it out and give it a run now and then. Many good memories and many more to make.
It is outstanding to have Kaiser Willys Auto Supply, LLC out there for the advise and parts we all need from time to time. Thank you for being there.
