How to remove the steering gear from your Willys Jeep – Part of an ongoing “Jeep” disassembly and restoration series sponsored by Kaiser Willys.
1. To remove the steering assembly, first remove the steering post bracket securing the steering column at the instrument panel.
2. Remove the steering wheel and horn button nut, then lift the steering wheel from the column. This process may require a steering wheel puller.
3. Next, remove the steering connecting rod from the steering gear arm.
4. Remove the bolts attaching the steering gear housing to the frame. Finally, lift and tilt the steering gear assembly carefully toward you until the steering gear arm is completely outside of the frame continue until the entire assembly is removed.
