Ed Marple's 1952 Willys CJ-2A

200: Ed Marple’s 1952 Willys CJ-3A

This Willys CJ-3A was used as a fire company field unit. I was able to purchase it and restore it to its Fire Company “days”. Thorndale Fire Company in Pennsylvania, bought the 1952 Willys CJ-3A to use in field and woods fires, they had a tank made to hold 120 gallons of water on it. The pump ran off the PTO. I joined the Fire Company in 1966 as a Junior Firefighter, and rode to many calls until I was old enough to drive the Jeep. They sold the Willys CJ-3A in 1978 to a local electrical company. I never thought at the time I would own it. In 2008 I was able to purchase it. My goal was to restore it. I drove it for 2 years and took it off road to start restoration. It took almost 3 years of work, doing the project on my own in my spare time. Over the winter I hope to get the tank built for it and remount the pump to PTO, this will complete the restoration and make it fully operational as it was back in the Fire Company years.

  1. Gotta love it. Thanks for saving another willys. Looks like a job well done. Please post another pic when you have it completed. Can definitely appreciate. I have a CJ-2A. CJ-3B AND A FC-170. I guess it’s A WILLYS Virus.

  5. Thats cool!

Im guessing thats a VHF low whip antenna, or possibly CB?

How did you mount the antenna, it appears to be inside the tub? L bracket, trunk lip? Im doing a non military jeep that will have an antenna and I certainly dont want a modern vehicle antenna, so this minute detail has me interested.

    Nice job,
    Dave
