As a five year old in 1975 my favorite toy was an old beat up Army Willys Jeep. I think it was a Tonka. I grew up always telling myself that I would own a real Willys someday. In 1989 I joined the Navy & got shipped out to Subic Bay, Phillipines. While I was there I saw Willys Jeeps all over the place as Taxi’s and privately owned. The Filipinos love their Willys Jeeps. In 2010 as I was driving through downtown El Paso, TX, my hometown, I spotted the grill of this old 1952 Willys M38 in back of an old tire shop. I spoke to the owner & to my surprise he sold it to me pretty cheap. He said the Willys had been back there for years and he was getting too old to fix it up. It was running but it only had the drivers seat. A couple of years of looking around town & online for used parts I was able to put most of it back together. My kids & friends love it. We take it out for trail rides & town parades.
