This 1948 Willys CJ-2A has been in our family for over 60 years. It was my Grandfathers Jeep and he drove it work daily to the Mt. Tremper Fire Tower. Both my Grandfather and Father worked for the New York D.E.C. as forest fire observers and both drove Willys Jeeps to the top of the mountains, where the fire towers were located. My Grandfather passed away in 1973, my father continued to drive this Jeep for another 7 or 8 years. It was last registered in 1982. The Willys was left untouched under a car port for approx. the last 40 years.
My father passed away 3 years ago. I took the Jeep home and have completely restored it over the past 2.5 years, completing 99% of the work myself, including the painting. Everything on this Jeep is new or has been gone through. I restored this Willys CJ-2A to honor my Grandfather and my father. I have appropriately named the CJ-2A ‘SONNY‘ which was my father’s nickname. Many of the parts were purchased through Kaiser Willys for the restoration. The frame is a 1948 CJ-2A, I have installed a CJ-3A body and windshield frame on it.

Fantastic job…I’m rebuilding my CJ-2A now and really impressed by the stance of your rebuild…What size wheels/tire combo did you use?

NIce to see you matched the color to your two post lift so well.
JK – great job, well done you should be very proud of the finished product.
Great job on the restoration. Love the father/grandfather Jeep connections. They would be proud.
I have a M38A1. I am always happy to see these vehicles restored to their original configuration. No V 6’s. Beautiful job.
What a great family treasure. My Jeep is also a family “heirloom”, which makes the project have so much meaning!

I would just like to add to Harrys story. I knew both his Grandfather and Father, I also rode with both of them up those mountains a few times. His Dad Sonny and I went up the mountain with him hunting many times in the Jeep that you had to have to go up those roads. The snow piled so high you rode on top of it, we hunted many times. First time he took me up there, a friend of his was just bringing out A 600 lb Black Bear. Scared me to death, it was so big but always had a great time up on the mountain. The Jeeps were just awesome to ride in…
