Hilo Hanson

My father bought this 1957 Willys pickup in 1962. It was used to pull a 1948 Mustang trailer attached by a fifth wheel. The truck came with no truck bed, so the fifth wheel was mounted on the truck. Hydraulic lines and air brakes were added to handle the trailer. It was used to haul garbage for a small town in Illinois with the dump being on the edge of town. In 1966 the state required garbage trucks to be enclosed, so my father stopped using the truck and bought a regular garbage truck. The rig sat for years. When my father died I got the truck and got rid of the trailer. I was lucky to find a decent pickup box to mount. I decided to restore the Willys in 2011 and did a full frame off restoration. It took about 1 ½ years. I kept it as stock as possible, changing to a 12 volt system. The original engine (6-226) is still in it. It has about 16,000 miles on it. The truck turned out nice and it gets many compliments at shows.
