Ronald Rhode

The story behind my Jeep is a time-old classic one. I’m a fifteen year old boy, and this is my first vehicle, a milestone in my life. My Jeep is a 1966 CJ-5 that has 36,000 original miles that came with an original snow plow. All my life I’ve grown up hearing stories from my father, my grandfather, and my uncle recall their first vehicle when nothing else mattered but having a full tank of gas and a pretty girl to ride shotgun. When other people look at my Jeep, they see a beat up old clunker on wheels. But when I look at it, I see future rides with my friends and the countless troubles we will get in. I see the hours my dad and I will put into fixing it; we’ve already purchased new tires, a transmission, and a new glove box. I see the hours of sweat I’ve put in picking up extra jobs to buy the new parts so one day, it will be fully restored. I see myself one day in twenty years recalling with a misty eyed fondness to my own children about all the memories I will make in this Jeep.

Sincerely Ronald A. Rhode

  1. Ron, you sound mature beyond your years. Patience and determination are your friends. Keep pluggin’ away at that Jeep and hold onto it, if economically possible. Then when you get old, you will not have to search for a replica of your first vehicle, like a lot of us. You will only have to go to your barn or garage to see it.

  3. Dear Glenn Saborosch, I truly have always planned on keeping my jeep. Like you say so many people get rid of their first car and regret it many years later. My uncle still wishes he had the steering wheel to his, it’s a pitty when a big car guy like himself just wishes for parts. That right there talked my dad into keeping his 1st car. I know the only real reason for someone to get rid of theirs is in the long run money. No matter what or any circumstances I will keep my jeep, take it with me 6+ feet under aka my grave my coffin will be my jeep. I fully intend to restore it to original specifications I truly appreciate the advice, thanks.
