Eric…I too have a 48 with a left hand spare tire carrier. I saw one on Ebay and called the guy who was older than I am in Ohio. He explained to me that Willys built these Jeeps to be used with a three point hitch in Agriculture. When a plow is used, you drive with the right hand tires in the furrow and if you have a right hand spare tire, it hits the dirt that was just plowed up. I don’t know if its true, but it makes sense.
