My husband and I inherited my grandfathers Jeep a few years into out marriage. It had been the vehicle that I first learned to drive as a child, and had a lot of sentimental value. Our restoration efforts focused on making Papa’s Jeep functional and hardy; restore it to a working farm vehicle that could be taken into the woods or the road. We lived in Northern Maine at the time and spent that first summer learning the ins and outs of Jeeps. My husband, in turn, became quite the Jeep mechanic. It stirred a new-found love in my in-laws and they have since purchased two Jeeps of their own. Although we no longer live in Maine, we have found that Papa’s Jeep makes an excellent beach vehicle and take it out every chance we get. Owning a Jeep is a lifestyle and a passion. It’s a lot of work and maintenance, but there is nothing that compares to driving down Main Street with the top off and windshield down, feeling the motor run through your feet, and the wind through your hair. It’s the feeling of true freedom that is unsurpassed.

I’m practically in tears right now, you see my Papa’s Jeep is in my garage and I have been working on it little by little. I’m now over 50 and I too learned how to drive on this exact Jeep at the age of 12 in our Orange Grove in Florida. I can definitely relate to your story and understand the love of family members, especially Papa’s. I can’t wait to get mine back on the road and enjoy it as you have done with your Papa’s Jeep. Enjoy the memories.
It has been said in the past the family that Jeeps together, stays together. I wish them the best! Dave Jones & Sasha
are you by any chance in Myrtle Beach , I see a jeep much like this one driving a round down here ?
Good looking jeep! Great story!
Congratulation my friend…..you now have been entrenched with
being a Willy Jeep fanatic! Yes, you will have wonderful
memories. There’s no substitute for a willys jeep.I have owned
several and miss them dearly. Have fun and enjoy the wind!
I’m curious what beaches you take your Jeep on. It looks like a M38, what have you done to protect it from sand and salt water corrosion?
I have a M38 I keep on Martha’s Vineyard but haven’t taken it on the beaches – yet….
Thanks!
