558: Brian Smith’s 1947 Willys Truck
My wife and I bought this 1947 Willys Pickup Truck in January of 2011. It arrived in remarkable condition, with the original glass and a rare early production rubber step pad on the side. The truck had been repainted in its original Luzon Red at some time before we took ownership. The truck had no rust, probably thanks to it being a two-wheel-drive truck instead of the four-wheel-drive version, and spending most of its life in a dry environment. The truck has a production number of 972, which means it was built during the first month of production in 1947. I know of only one other truck still in existence (in California) with an earlier number. A few times, we have entered the truck pulling our 1957 Whirlwind wooden boat in the Bristol, New Hampshire Independence Day parade. We won first place among the parade entries in 2013.
