New Replacement Voltage Regulator in 6 volt 35 amp – Part#: 923131
Q: I have a 52 CJ-3A, but not sure if everything is original, how can I tell the difference between a 6 volt or 12 volt system?
- A: The easiest way is to just look at your battery or the regulator is usually stamped.
Q: I have a 45 GPW and don’t want to pay 250+ for the regulator. Will this work?
- A: It should work ok but won’t look original.
Q: I have a 1953 CJ-3A that I bought and I am not sure what is 6 and what is 12 volt. It has a rebuilt starter that has the push button on the floor to start. It was starting slow, and then the solenoid started clicking when I tried to start it. It has a 12 volt battery so I bought a 12 volt solenoid to replace the other one. When I put the cables back on the battery it started smoking real fast at the cables. My question is if my starter is 6 volt then I need to stay with a 6 volt solenoid, correct?
- A: You are probably 12 volt system with the original 6 volt starter which is why it cranks slooow. On the solenoid it depends on how you have it wired but I would say yes.
Q: My current voltage regulator has “pos” on it, does this mean it is a positive ground system which would indicate it is not original? Are the voltage regulators advertised negative ground?
- A: All Willys were originally negative ground.
Q: Will voltage regulator part 923131 fit 41-58 Jeep?
- A: Yes it is proper for you.
Q: Have a 1947 with 6v system. Last idiot put a 12v battery in and drove 100 feet, dropped the clutch and killed it. The bottom wire from the relay on the firewall going to the starter is burnt. With the 6v battery in, the vehicle clicks one time but the motor does not crank. Is this the regulator or the relay, or maybe both fried? Also the lights, horn etc work fine.
- A: My guess is both. You are gonna want to replace them before you turn it on again.
Q: On the item 923131. I want to fit it to negative Willys MB, with 6 volt dynamo. Is the unit negative ground? What is the price for pack and postage to England UK?
- A: All Willys are negative ground. Please email us your full shipping address to mike@kaiserwillys.com and we can quote you out.
Q: I inherited a 1946 CJ-2A. I was told that my great uncle upgraded the electrical to an 8 volt system. Is this even possible. I just purchased a 6 volt voltage regulator from you but before I install it I wanted to find out if it will work or cause any damage.
- A: He basically put a 8 volt battery in there for better cranking. It should be fine but I would have a local auto electrician check it out first.
Q: Will this regulator work either positive or negative ground system?
- A: All willys are negative ground. This is for a negative ground system.
Q: I just had a generator rebuilt on a 1951 Jeepster, regulator is good, the battery now seems to be over charging, is it possible to blow that battery? Or is it possible the gauge is just off? Also could crossing the wires on the regulator make this happen? I marked the wires before I removed them from the regulator, but when I went to hook them back up the writing was gone. I need help thanks for any info you can give me….
- A: The best thing to do here is have a local automotive electrician look at it. That way you are safe of any major electrical issues.
