Honestly, I never knew too much about old rustic Jeeps. One day I went down to my best friends hometown to visit, and he was deep into a ground up restoration. I was very interested into what he was doing, so I asked several questions. It didn’t take too long until I had the itch. He finished his project and let me drive his ’46. That’s all it took & I knew I had to have one of my own! We scoured much of central and southern Indiana until January of 2014 when we came across this gem of a Jeep. It’s a 1946 Willys CJ2-A, #36499 column shift. Her original color is pasture green, but unfortunately someone decided to “brush paint” another darker green over the top. As mentioned, I purchased her in January and she was turn key ready. We just drove her north from southern Indiana to central Indiana last weekend. Not a single problem with this older beauty. We stopped in Story Indiana for a short rest and a few pictures. This winter I plan to clean it up and work on removing this dark green paint to get back to the original pasture green. I have had a ball of fun so far, I can only imagine what the future will hold!

That’s a super-looking intact Early CJ-2A – what a great find. I’ve been fortunate to be able to acquire and restore two early ’46 Harvest Tan versions with columns shifts and I’ve never had more fun. Enjoy the heck out of it!
That’s the 1st 2A seen closest to my 2A baby . Like you, I LOVE to drive mine and hear the REEL JEEP engine sound when gearing through it on the lane to the Postal to pickup mailbox delivery! Great to see yours !!!
wow – that jeep is still in great shape!! I was able to drive my M38 home from the sellers house too. Not many folks can say that. Love the old jeep – glad you are going to restore ‘original’ — great pictures of nostalgic americana there in Indiana too !
Nice Jeep! I am in the middle of a ground up resto on my 46 CJ2A, a lot of work but worth it in the end. Almost ready for under frame assembly now – engine and drive train all rebuilt and assembled on frame! Mine was dark Blue originally, will try to duplicate that as you are doing with your color, good idea in the long run. Best of Luck, Cheers!
Great story. You’re near my neck of the woods (S/W Indiana)
