I bought this CJ-5 back in early 2009. It was found in a dry barn where it sat for over 30+ years and paid $1000 bucks. Completely disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up. Father/son weekend project all done together. The project was completely finished and on the road fathers day 2011. The Jeep was custom fit with 4 cylinder CAT motor attached to 4 speed Muncie trans. It tops out around 50 mph and gets 40 miles to the gallon all day long. Still running great and a blast to drive every time.

Great idea to move from gasoline to Diesel engine!
Better low end grunt, better MPG, virtually waterproof; in Europe off road vehicles are Diesel powered.

This is very cool!! I actually am in the process of doing the same thing. I have a 3024C CAT that in going into my 52 cj2b. I have a Muncie 4 speed for it as well but I am curious what you used for a bell housing/adapter to mate it to the engine…? Looks like a standard chev bell housing…?

Genius Idea for motor swap Id like to hear more about it. Would it bolt up to the original transmission with the correct housing? Will it still do about the same speed? Is this motor almost impossible to start in cold temperatures? Lastly I don’t want an exact amount but with the motor swap there had to have been some modifications you said you have a 4-speed trans manual I hope with the swap and mods for the swap a roundabout price what would something like that cost. I only ask because I’m working on a 1966 cj5 and simply like your Idea. Mine is also a project for me and my dad. Thanks. Good luck with your Jeep.
