My Willys has a strange story behind it. I found it back in 2005 at a body shop here in Beloit. It had a CJ-3B body on it but from 40 feet away I knew it was going to need some extensive body work.
I bought it for $1200 only because it had a 1972 CJ-5 frame, brakes and axels. The body was held together with angle iron, chicken wire and plaster. No much of which was salvageable. The title claimed it to be a CJ-2A from 1946. I purchased the correct body from Omix and put it together in about 6 months. An auto painter from Clendening Body Shop in Rockford, IL painted it in Mini Cooper Chili Red. I did the interior in truck bed liner. I couldn’t find a grill so I cut the 3B one up and refabricated it to fit the 2A. The windshield frame didn’t fit so I had to rebuild the 3B frame to fit as well. It turned out to be a great experience. Not sure if I would do another one, but it was fun.
