1953 Willy’s Overland Pickup – Sorry all Originals, this Willy will run down the freeway along all
those flashy plastic ones. Dana 44 front and rear, V6 chevy Vortec, 700R4 4speed GM tranny, NP208 TFC, 410 gears. This body will set on IH Scout II chasis, front brake conversion by GM and rear disc brakes.

I was in need of another pickup truck, so decided after buying my 2006 Red rubicon short wrangler, it still wouldn’t work as a truck would. I started looking on craigslist, and found this 53 Willys O. He wanted 3500.00 for it, bargained with the ole boy for awhile, before I drove away without. I told him on the way out, give me a call when you get tired of it settin in your front yard, I’ll come down and get it out your way for 1500.00. About 2 & 1/2 months later, I was on my way, about 80 miles south, Fort Scott Kansas to pick it up.

  1. Good looking project, Tom. I have a ’54 truck I’m about to get started on. Bought it with SB, TH400,NP205,D44 and 9″ rear. Previous owner did that and the PS and PB. Found perfect cab and sheet metal so I’ll blow it all up and put it together right.
I see you replaced your floors but it looks like you may have made them from scratch. I have a perfect cab I’m gonna use but if you built your own panels for more legroom, I would love to know how it worked out. I would cut up perfect floors if it meant I could have more room.
I’m looking forward to seeing your truck come along and hope you post more.
    Thanks Tom.

  3. Yes,I did make them from scratch. But no, it didnt give me anymore leg room. The floors were pretty ate up when i got it. I just couldnt see spending the kinda money they were asking for sheet metal.Plus they didnt look to be long enough.
I am kinda stalled on the project rt now because iam waiting on a new motor (stock V6) and the weather here has been really nasty. Too hot. Thanks Tom
