  1. Thanks for putting our 1953 CJ3A on your website!
Two owners ago did about 80% ground up restore and changed a few things that he couldn’t salvage. Then the last owner did a few more updates, PERTRONIX electronic distributor/ignition module, after market blinkers, etc., kept it in a garage and did a great job of maintenance. We purchased this off Nashville Craigslist after much search and checking the forums as to what to look for on a CJ3A. It isn’t perfect but it was definitely the best out there in our area and we are aware that the tub is not the original tub for a 1953 CJ3A.
My husband, Dave, has a 1949 Ford 8-N that he uses on our farm, so there is a lot of similarity and he has a love/hate relationship with the tractor. Both give him a lot of joy now, and I get the benefit of seeing him happy even thought he said the jeep is mine…. He bought it for my birthday cause he knew I would love it.
We have had the steering, brakes, shocks, and electrical done and have had the clutch, transmission and carburetor done this month. All the parts have been purchased on Kaiser Willys with help from their excellent staff. They even shipped them directly to our repair shop!
We found two places in Cookeville, TN that are willing to complete all projects with as many original parts as possible at a very reasonable price and will even use the parts we have purchased. They called this morning to tell me they pulled the T-90 to replace the seals because we had a leak that was not coming from the drain plug. We have replaced the weather stripping on the windshield and tool box and are working on the fuel sending unit. The after market turn signals on the Jeep are going to be retrofitted to the bulbs that have dual wires so we can remove the two that the p/o put next to the grill. We are then wiring it for our Ben Hur trailer we found and plan on restoring. We are also putting a canvas top on the jeep so we can use it in inclement weather.
This has definitely been a great project and now our family in Florida and East Tennessee are looking for Jeeps and parts. We love restoring and learning about an important part of history and the different areas in which the Willy’s were involved. The best times are when people come up to us and give their version of how Willy’s played a part in their lives and they relive a moment good or bad.
