I bought an M38A1 in February 1972. I was 18 and lived in Minnesota. It was the very first vehicle I ever bought. I nearly froze to death driving it the 35 miles home. My Dad, a WWII vet, told me I was crazy and made me return it to the owner. I owned that first M38A1 for only a weekend. Forty-one years later, I bought my second Willys, another M38A1. I am sure Dad is smiling down on me from Heaven. I used my father-in-law’s Army unit designations on the bumper. He was a Korean War Vet – 32nd Infantry, 1st Battalion, Company L. The A1 is the centerpiece of our Christmas Card this year.

I have a 1955 Willys Army Jeep. M38A1. My Colorado license plate is 55M38A1, I did not restore it, though I wish I had those skills! I bought it at local Jax Mercentile/ sports store here in Loveland,Colorado. The manager works on restoring and has even sold 5 ton Army trucks! They also have an old military motorcycle with a side car! Really interesting bike! I have had my Jeep in the Larimer County Fair Parade (won $50) and put it on dispaly at Military celebrations, ie last year Pearl Harbor Day at the Veterans Park on Loveland Lake and US 34. US 34 ( Eisenhower Blvd) goes north up thru Big Thompson Canyon 28 miles to Estes Park and Rocky Mtn Nat’l Park . Big T was flood for 18 miles and lost 6 or 8 bridges. The road was repaired and opened one month early in November. Contractors working 24/7. They are still working on the road, electric poles and lines, and bridges. Some home are partially hanging out in space with the foundation and earth gone. I drove up thru Wednesday for a doctors appointment. It was kind of weird to see the area and destruction. A woman’s body was recovered down here in west Loveland in the debris. It is really sad to see. The home owners and residents are hanging in there! Resilient. God Bless!

Steve,
I hope that lady is your wife. Tell her she looks better then the jeep.
