My mom sold me the Willys for $1 and I took it away from the house in Blue Hill Maine where it was used summers only since 1956. (It spent its first few summers in Greenville Maine before the family moved to Blue Hill.) So it left rusty, in need of work, and to her not worth the bother. The restoration took almost two years. Frame off, attention to detail, done by a woman professional. We didn’t show my mom any of the progress, no discussion of what was happening. The job completed, we brought the Willys back to Maine unannounced to a cruise night in Ellsworth Maine, about 20 minutes from the house. My sister arranges to get my parents to the cruise night on false pretenses. My mom is completely slack jawed when she saw the Jeep. She did’t believe it’s was the same vehicle – until I give her a ride back to the house. She said once I turned it on and she could hear the engine she knew it was the same old Jeep. They were ecstatic to see it back in new or better condition.
Hey Tim. That’s a beautiful station wagon! What color is that paint? We’re restoring a 1961 pickup and when we saw your pictures we knew that’s what color we needed for our truck. Could you let us know?
