Hi…. I have just completed a 3 year project on my 1962 Willys Station Wagon. It is now a high side pickup. The entire sides, fender wells and running boards are diamond plate. The station wagon part was cut away and covered with diamond plate also. The inside of the bed now had a pull out drawer for tools ,storage and show. Both the front and rear bumpers are custom designed and made from heavy steel. The doors have been removed and the only glass is a new windshield. The rear window area (that was the back portion of the station wagon) is a metal mountain scene cut out. The dash is very simple with a new Jeep instrument cluster that has all of the needed read outs. The leather bucket seats are from a 2008 Mazda. The wheels are 17″ front and 18″ rear with General Tires. The entire finish including the interior, exterior and underneath running gear etc. is a heavy spray with bedliner Ryno type coating.
The entire running gear, brakes, clutch, suspension, differencial, transmission, exhaust, wiring etc. has been replaced or rebuilt. The same goes for the engine. It was completely rebuilt in a machine shop. It is the original 6-226 Super hurricane engine. I have removed the front drive shaft and only use it as a 2 wheel drive although I have all of the original parts to make it a 4×4 if ever needed.
I use this in the summer for cruising around a couple of car shows and parades. It’s unique and fun to drive and own. I enjoy seeing what others do with their Willys and thought I would share mine in case you have any interest.
